The MERCHANT of VENICE By William Shakespeare Monday, 30 March 2020 Streamed live from 7:00PM AEDT (Melbourne, Australia)
Streaming details will be provided shortly.
Controversial from day one for its depiction of the Jewish moneylender Shylock, Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” remains one of the most contentious and yet also among the most frequently performed of his plays. As part of our ongoing series “Reading the Complete Works”, of which this reading will be the fourteenth entry, Circle in the Sand and the International Actors Ensemble, in conjunction with the Alex Theatre in St Kilda, Melbourne, present a full-text, unrehearsed reading of “The Merchant of Venice”. Normally these readings are convened in the glorious Foyer Lounge of the Alex Theatre, and those IAE members scattered around the globe who had been prepared to brave a 2:00AM start in their timezone, joining us via Skype, had joined us one, or two, and occasionally five at a time, in what was otherwise an in-person public reading. But the global lockdown has forced some recalibrations, and this time every one of us is chiming in via webcam, with the reading being streamed globally. The cast of this reading of “The Merchant of Venice” join us live from Australia, UK, USA, Mexico, and Brazil. The free streamed reading commences at 7:00PM tonight, Monday March 30. Check back here for updates on where are how you can access it. Readers: Emma Drysdale, Karlis Zaid, Karol Garrett, Renata Wimer, Aaron T Moore, Amy Bradney-George, Valentina Vinci, Angelique Malcolm, Bradley Storer, David Meadows, Seton Pollock, Greg Pascoe, Natalie Beran, and Tim Ferris. ...
